Yamaha Celebrates World Ocean Day

World Ocean Day is celebrated internationally on 8 June each year. The day is used to raise awareness about overfishing of our oceans and the importance of protecting our waterways. It’s also a day that Yamaha Motor Australia renews its commitment to supporting Yamaha Motor Corporation’s goals for a sustainable society.

Yamaha Motor Corporation manufactures a wide range of products that are used by our customers and staff to enjoy the outdoors – on land and on water. To ensure future generations can enjoy our products in the same ways we do, Yamaha Motor Corporation has made a commitment to environmental, social, and governance issues (ESGs). These include conservation and sustainability of our oceans and waterways through the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, as well as its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To ensure these international goals are met, Yamaha Motor Australia supports a range of local initiatives through its Yamaha Rightwaters environmental program. The Rightwaters program includes a major sponsorship of Australian start-up company Seabin.

Through this sponsorship, Seabin has been able to expand its program, placing 16 of its high-tech Seabins at eight locations around Sydney Harbour. Over a 12-month period, the Seabins collected a staggering 16.5 tonnes of plastics, surface oils and other debris that would otherwise still be floating in our waterways. With technical and financial assistance from the Yamaha Motor Corporation, Seabin has continued to develop its design with the view to placing Seabins in major waterways around the globe. This program is called the #100 Smarter Cities For Cleaner Oceans campaign.
